Air Monitoring
Our Air Monitoring service is a requirement for asbestos abatement contractors to comply with WorksafeBC regulations in some situations. Air monitoring consists of setting up air pumps that create a slight vacuum to pull air into a cartridge. Fibers, such as asbestos, are captured on a statically charged membrane within the cartridge as the air passes through it. After the pumps have run for a few hours, the cartridges are taken back to our laboratory for Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis. This analysis determines the number of fibers in the air that was sampled and are reported back to the abatement contractor daily in order to inform them of the effectiveness of their asbestos containment procedures.
